State Police and Piscataquis County Sheriff's Deputies have scaled back the search for Robert Burton until morning. On Monday afternoon, police acted on only the second confirmed sighting of Burton since he vanished into the woods. The search will continue in the morning.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that a renewed search of the First and Second Davis Ponds didn't yield any sign of Burton or the canoe or kayak that he was last seen in, just after noon Monday. A local camp owner had alerted police after spotting Burton on his property. The suspect, who the witness said was wearing camouflage clothing and carrying a black backpack, fled from the property and was seen stealing the watercraft.

Police believe that the man suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend more than a month ago has been breaking into camps and houses in the area. Despite that, McCausland says this is only the second confirmed sighting of him. Stephanie Ginn Gebo's body was found in the Parkman home the pair once shared on June 5th. Burton has been on the run ever since.

Local residents are reminded that Burton is considered armed and dangerous. Keep houses, outbuildings, and vehicles locked and keep a light on outside. Anyone who believes they may have seen him or anything suspicious is urged to call 911 or the State Police in Bangor at 973-3700.
