Bill Wyman Says Rolling Stones Often Faked Each Others Autographs

According to former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman, the band members used to forge each others’ signatures when signing large amounts of memorabilia. All except for Charlie Watts, that is.

“We all learned to sign each others’ signatures – except for Charlie,” Wyman told Rolling Stone. “He wouldn’t sign anything. But me, Keith, Mick and Brian could all sign each others’ autographs.”

So that means that your prized Stones’ autograph could indeed be a forgery. “There’s footage of us signing things in dressing rooms,” Wyman continues, “There were stacks and stacks of books, programmes to be signed, and we just used to grab a bunch each and sign everybody’s name. It was the only way to do it, because you couldn’t pass this stuff around. You didn’t have time; you were on stage in ten minutes.”

The only signature fans can be certain of then, is that of drummer Charlie Watts, who the 76 year old Wyman says was the main reason he rejoined his former band mates on stage last year. “It was nice, because I loved playing with Charlie,” he said before adding, “I realized you can’t return to something from the past. It’s not the same, it doesn’t work.”
