Keith Richards Addresses High Cost of Rolling Stones Concert Tickets

Despite guitarist Keith Richards telling the BBC that the Rolling Stones hope to not “charge over the bloody top” for tickets to their recently announced two-city 2012 string of concert dates, that’s just what seems to be happening.

Addressing rumors that the four Stones members would each make a million dollars per show, Richards says, “I haven’t looked at the figures. Numbers can get greatly exaggerated but £16 million ($25.8 million) sounds about right to us. I’m a bit out of the loop with showbiz — I just want to do some shows and I don’t want to charge over the bloody top.”

The BBC reports that the string of access costs and booking fees mean the cheapest tickets for the London and New Jersey shows are going for £106 ($170), while the price of a standard seat to one of the shows is £406 ($654). For those going all in, a VIP hospitality package with surcharges added could run the buyer as much as £1140 ($1836). However, members of the band’s fan club will be offered cheaper seats for their continued patronage.

So far only the four shows — Nov. 25 and 26 at London’s O2 Arena and Dec. 13 and 15 at New Jersey’s Prudential Center — have been announced. Richards says that even though four dates are all they’ve booked so far, he feels there may be more coming in 2013. He hints, “Nobody has given us a heads up, but this band isn’t going to wind up with four shows. Next year looks like it’s on.”

When asked about the rumor of playing next year’s Glastonbury Festival, he added, “On a good day, if the weather’s fine, that’s an interesting proposition. The band wants to get these four gigs under their belt, then think about next year after that. Anything is possible with this band.”
