A Sidney man was killed in a snowmobile accident overnight along the shores of Messalonskee Lake.

According to the Maine Warden Service, 32-year-old Jeffrey Fisher was found dead after becoming separated from his friend while they were on a snowmobile ride. Fisher crashed his sled and was ejected onto rocks along the shoreline.

Officials say speed is likely a contributing factor in the crash, based on witness statements and evidence at the scene. Fisher was wearing a helmet. An autopsy is planned at the State Medical Examiner's office.

Wardens were assisted at the scene by Sidney Fire & Rescue and Delta Ambulance. The investigation into the accident is ongoing. This is Maine's 4th snowmobile related fatality this season.
