We've all heard it said that timing is everything, so here is some timing advice to help you garner better results from your efforts. Now I don't have all the answers of course, but this comes from a combination of expert research and anecdotal evidence that points to there being better times for some things than others to try to get better results during your day.

  • Want your e-mails to get read, send them at 6 AM.Click-through rates on emails peaks around this time.
  • Want to get more stuff done focus on tasks from 6:30 – 8:30 AM. Generally, people are most productive in the morning.
  • Need someone to make a highly ethical decision then 8 AM is the time to ask. According to research, we are inclined to make better moral and ethical decisions in the morning than we do at night.
  • Want to get the most out of your cup of coffee, try having it around 10:30 AM. Believe it or not, the best time to have a cup of coffee is not first thing in the morning. Aim to drink yours between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., when the cortisol concentration in your bloodstream starts to dip.
  • Looking to get your Facebook posts shared, then post something interesting on Facebook 1 PM. This is the time when most people will reshare your posts.
  • Need a nap, shoot for 1:30PM. Now of course your optimal naptime will depend on the time you woke up today -- a nap starting at 1:30 p.m. assumes that you’ve gotten out of bed around 6 a.m.
  • Want to ask for a pay raise, do it around 5 PM. The key is finding a moment when your boss is not rushed and has time to truly listen.
