The U.S. Geological Survey reported a small earthquake off the coast of Bar Harbor this weekend.

The earthquake was measured 17 miles offshore, at a depth of about 3 miles. It's magnitude was measured at 2.4. Only one report came into USGS that claimed they felt the quake. That report came from a resident in Scituate, Massachusetts.

Another quake measuring at 1.7 in magnitude was centered eight miles North West of Rumford. That quake was reported on Friday.

Sunday's quake was the strongest in Maine since a 2.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Jay last May.

In March of 1904, the strongest earthquake recorded in Maine shook the state at a magnitude of 5.1.
