An annual event that features non-electronic gaming will be held in Bangor this year. SnowCon traditionally had been held in Orono, but will make the move next weekend to the Cross Insurance Center. I's not just for serious gamers, the event is a family-friendly way to beat the winter blues!

In this age of video games, on our televisions and phones, it's refreshing to see an event that's based entirely around face-to-face gaming. SnowCon features everything from Monopoly to cards games like Apples to Apples, party games to role-playing games. How about actually sitting down and playing Scrabble against others in person, rather than playing WORD on Facebook? Cool!

It's a great chance to socialize in a situation that's based solely around having fun. No burying yourself in an electronic game. No wearing a headset to communicate with your competition. Instead, you'll look your opponents in the eyes and laugh together. Can you tell that I love this idea?

SnowCon is family-friendly, except for the Tavern kickoff, this year being held at Tantrum in Downtown Bangor on Friday, January 17th. Organizer Gibran Graham told me that every great adventure starts with meeting in a Tavern, so that's how they kick-off the weekend. The evening includes comedy, music, dancing, and magic!

The gaming will be held on Saturday and Sunday, January 18th and 19th at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. For more information and to get registered, log onto the Snowcon Maine website. Game on!
