Recreational marijuana legalization was on the ballot in two communities in Maine, and in a few states.

Last November, voters in Portland legalized the use of recreational pot. Since then, South Portland town officials have been very vocal about their dislike for the mostly symbolic ordinance. Despite the opposition, voters in South Portland supported the measure 6,326 to 5,755.

Just like Portland, even though citizens voted for its legalization...the police will enforce the federal law, outlawing weed. But hey, if it's prescribed to you it magically makes it legal again!

Lewiston voters rejected the ordinance; 7,366 against, 6,044 in support.

The Maine branch of the national Marijuana Policy Project also aimed for York to have a legalization question on the ballot. However, York selectmen voted twice to remove the question from the ballot, despite pot supporters gathering more than enough signatures.

Around our wonderful country other pot questions where on the ballot. In Florida, medical marijuana didn't get the required 60% to pass. Bummer man...BUT! Voters in Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia join Washington and Colorado in legalizing recreational marijuana statewide!

Marijuana Policy Project is hoping to add Maine to that list in 2016. They're pushing for a statewide vote.

Cheer's SoPo, this bag of Doritos is for you!
