The body of a Wells resident was found in her mobile home this week, over two years after she passed away.

Neighbors in Lucie McNulty's community are in shock as they realize that the woman, who always kept to herself, had lain dead in her home for years without their knowledge. Central Maine News reports, that McNulty was very much a loner, after moving to Maine from the Buffalo, New York area about fifteen years ago. She taught music there, but had almost no human interaction in the last few years of her life. Police say she kept her shades down and only went out of the house to gather large delivery boxes from her mailbox. Neighbors told CM they assumed that's how she got her groceries and supplies.

The police had gone to McNulty's house a few times over the years for wellness checks, but never had a reason to go inside. Everything around the house seemed fine. The electricity was still on a year ago and there was no indication of foul play or distress. They speculated that perhaps she was living somewhere else, like in a nursing home.

But the town had mailed an intent to foreclose because of unpaid taxes on her home. And her mail had piled up to the point where the post office had started returning it. That's when a former coworker in New York contacted police because his Christmas card had been returned and he hadn't heard from her in a long time.

Neighbors occasionally knocked on her door. But the silence behind the door was not unusual. McNulty kept to herself and hadn't interacted with others in years. Her body was discovered in her bedroom on Friday. Neighbors said she had cats, but no animals were found in her home.

The State Medical Examiner's office says McNulty died of ischemic cardiovascular disease, which is a narrowing of the arteries. She would have been 69, if she were still alive.
