The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency have arrested two men from southern New England and charged them with selling heroin and crack cocaine throughout Washington County, police said.

Tuesday night, drug agents and deputies searched two homes, one on County Road in Trescott and another on Middle Street in Whitneyville. The raids followed undercover purchases of heroin and/or crack cocaine from both locations, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

McCausland said evidence of drug trafficking was recovered from both residences.

Police arrested Rafael Santiago, 18, of Brooklyn, Connecticut and Marco Serrano, 23, of New Bedford, Massachusetts. Both suspects were charged with class B trafficking in schedule W drugs, and bail was set at $1,500.

The two were transported to the Washington County Jail and scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

"The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is committed to stopping the influx of this poison into our County and we will continue to work with, and support, the efforts of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency,” Sheriff Barry Curtis said in the release.

The Pleasant Point Police Department and Maine State Police were also part of the investigation, which is ongoing and could result in additional arrests, the release said.
