Like everywhere across the country, opiate addiction is hitting our area hard.  It seems that not a day goes by that we don't hear of another arrest, another death.

Open up the daily paper and read the obituaries, chances are someone has lost their fight with addiction.  Just this morning, the Bangor Daily News ran a story that officials in the state of New Hampshire expect up to 488 people to overdose and die by the end of the year.

You may know someone struggling with heroin addiction.  Maybe it's you.

I've seen the needle
and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone
But every junkie's
like a settin' sun. (The Needle And The Damage Done - Neil Young)

BUT THERE IS HOPE, IT'S CALLED PROJECT HOPE, and it's a brand new program in Ellsworth.  There are now people willing to help you recover, with no ramifications.  They can help you get back on your feet. Get your life back together.  But, you have to take the first step.

Project HOPE is one of the first of its kind here in New England.  It's a way for people to get help WITHOUT GETTING IN TROUBLE OR BEING ARRESTED!  It happens one day a week, every week, on Tuesdays between 8AM and 4PM, and it's a coordinated effort between the Ellsworth Police Department and Healthy Acadia.  All one has to do is walk into the Ellsworth Police station to obtain help.  People with a problem have already been doing so.

LISTEN TO I-95 @95.7FM THIS THURSDAY MORNING DURING THE 7 O'CLOCK HOUR as Paul and Amanda host Healthy Acadia's Denise Black and Chief Pete Bickmore of the Ellsworth Police Department.  All four want to help, and save lives.  They'll have even more information for you.

You better quit, son before your dead
Quit the needle. Quit the spoon
Quit the trip to the moon  (The Needle And The Spoon - Lynyrd Skynyrd)

With generous community support, PROJECT HOPE can work! Listen Thursday for more information.
