A couple of meteor showers will wiz by mother Earth this summer!

Here in Maine we are lucky enough plenty of places to escape from the city lights. With the effects of light pollution receiving national attention, Maine is being referred to as one place 'that still has stars' according to the folks behind the Acadia Night Sky Festival.

Total darkness is the key to a great stargazing location. My favorite spot is my camp in The County. More closer to home is good ol' Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. Cadillac is arguably the best spot near the Bangor area for stargazing. But really any dark location will do. Keep in mind most public parks are off limits after sundown.

Coming up in July the Delta Aquarids meteor shower will peak. Look to the sky the night of July 28-29. Unfortunately this meteor shower coincides with a full moon, so viewing will be difficult.

A more promising celestial event arrives in August when the Perseid meteor shower peaks. Hope for clear skies August 12-13 because you could be seeing up to 60 meteors per-hour!

The ever popular Acadia Night Sky Festival runs September 10-14. The festival features workshops, guest speakers and, of course, stargazing! You'll find more info in the link above.
