Huffingtonpost.com has named the '17 Best Attractions in Maine's Inland Cities'. Here are the attractions named the best in Bangor.

Here are the 5 best attractions in Bangor according to their list:

1. The Galen Cole Land Transportation Museum- This is more than a collection of aircraft, trains, cars, and trucks. The Cole Museum offers a look into Mainers in the military, as well as some quirky displays you won't find anywhere else. My favorite thing the museum offers is their ' Talk to a Vet' program. This program allows groups, often local schools, to learn about what it means to serve and their personal stories.

2. The Bangor Troop Greeters- The best chance to see what the Troop Greeters are all about, is to show up at the Bangor Airport whenever troops land. Bangor is the first US city many troops land in after leaving areas of war and the Troop Greeters are there every time to give them the warmest welcome. They hand out handshakes, hugs, and cell phones for soldiers to make calls to loved ones. If you visit the airport in between flights you can still browse the many pins, hats, flags, and coins donated to the greeters as well as a tally of how many soldiers have been through.

3. Stephen King's House- Of course Stephen King fans love to visit "Derry, Maine" and what's a visit to "Derry" without a stop at the king of horror's house! Although a sighting of the author is a rare thing these days, the sight of the bat topped, spider web, iron gates is good enough.

4. The Bangor Historical Society- With artifacts from the great Joshua Chamberlain to local memorabilia, Bangor's history stands still here. Some pieces have very exciting stories attached to them, others are complete mysteries. Bangor's rich history is preserved well here. The Thomas Hill House is neat enough, let alone what is in it! The staff here are also very knowledgeable of the Queen City as well.

5. Friar's Bakehouse- Have monks make you lunch! Some of the largest serving sizes I have ever seen! Soups, salads, and more made and served by real, frock wearing monks! This has to be one of the most relaxing places to grab a bite to eat in Bangor with church music playing softly over the speakers and very personal service. People who have reviewed the Friar's Bakehouse all agree the best part of this restaurant/ bakery is the no cell phone rule! In today's society it is rare to see at least one person glued to their mobile device, but not here!
