Multiple Maine media organizations are reporting that the Maine House and Senate in Augusta have voted to ban the use of handheld cellphones when driving. The House passed the bill today by a vote of 85-60.

The Maine Legislature has debated this issue for years, and passed a ban on texting while driving in 2011. This new law makes it illegal to talk on the phone while driving, unless you are using a completely hands-free, voice activated device.

What do you think? Is talking on the phone while driving as dangerous as distracted texting? Do you agree with the new ban?
