Hey, did you know that Jonathan Edwards lives in Maine?  Who? No not the politician, the guy that sang "Sunshine!"

Folk singer Jonathan Edwards, now 69, was born in Minnesota, grew up in Virginia, and eventually made his way to Cape Elizabeth, Maine, where he lives today.

Edwards recently told Portland Magazine that his most famous song was a "last minute substitution."

Edwards said that he had been in the studio working on another song when the engineer accidentally recorded over it.  Edwards said the audio engineer asked if he had another three minute long song.  All he could come up with was a little over two minutes, and the 1971 song called Sunshine made its way to the #4 spot on the Billboard Top 40 chart.

In the article, Edwards was asked what his best 30 seconds in show business was: "I’m standing at the foot of the Washington Monument in 1971, at a huge anti-war rally. It was a rose-colored dawn in the Potomac River Valley. I had just written “Sunshine.” People had just started hearing it. [He waits two beats.] That song was the perfect song to play that morning."

Edwards went on to say, "I'd be thrilled to leave this world remembered for that one song."

Edwards still plays shows, a lot of them in southern Maine, and at one time opened for the Allman Brothers and the late B.B. King.
