I think this is an interesting study that “cheerleader effect” referred to on the show How I met Your Mother  actually seems to exist.  The principle being that we all look more attractive in a crowd.

At least that is what psychological scientists from the University of California in San Diego are saying. They tested their theory on participants showing them photos of 100 people, some photos showed individuals with two other people and others showed them alone.

What the study revealed was for whatever reason regardless of male or female, the person they were looking at in the photo was deemed more attractive in a group than by themselves although the not by much.

Their end conclusion is we should embrace our average faces because as long as there are less good looking and more good looking folks around you in a crowd the balancing effect that makes you appear more attractive. Go you!
