State police say three girls were seriously injured when the car they were in slammed into some trees and overturned on Hanscom Road in Benton Tuesday morning.

A combination of speed and alcohol likely played a role in the crash, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a news release.

Brooklyn Vining, 15, and Jodie Nadeau, 20, both of Fairfield, are being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Both Vining and Nadeau suffered multiple injuries and were transported to the hospital by a Lifeflight helicopter.

The driver, Sadie MacDonald, 19, of Waterville, was transported to MaineGeneral with multiple injuries.

MacDonald, who has a suspended driver’s license, lost control of a 1997 Lexus at a high rate of speed, the release said. The vehicle became airborne, struck several trees and landed on its roof, pinning the three girls inside the vehicle.

Police are awaiting blood alcohol test results and will consult with the district attorney’s office before deciding what charges to lodge against MacDonald.
