I think I'll swim only in fresh water this summer...

Over the weekend a total of three Great White shark sightings where reported off the Maine coast. The first report came in to police around 1:30 Saturday afternoon by a charter fishing boat. The captain reported seeing the Great White about 1.2 miles off the coast of Moody Beach in Wells. A boat was deployed to confirm the sighting but was unable to spot the fish. Still, Wells Harbor Master Chris Mayo says he finds the sighting credible because the boat captain is experienced fisherman.

Saturday's second Great White was reported to the US Coast Guard in Portland at 7:45PM. The report was made by a boater fishing for blue sharks about 26 off the coast of Portland. It was described as having a white belly, vertical fin and as long as his 22-foot-long boat.

A third Saturday sighting kept the eyes of lifeguards at Old Orchard Beach on the shoreline. A master diver reported to Wells police that he had spotted a great white between 100 to 200 yards offshore.

Officials say, though odd, there is no danger to the public.

You are encouraged to report any shark sightings that are near the shore to police.
