It was 104 years ago today that the unthinkable happened as the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg some 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland and sank within three hours.  Today, the Portland Science Center announced that Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, will open on June  18th.

The wreckage of the Titanic sat undiscovered more than two miles down until 1985. Two years later the recovery of artifacts began, and now you'll be able to see some of them in Portland

According a press release, "The exhibition tells the dramatic and poignant story of the Ship, crew, and passengers who embarked on the voyage of a lifetime, only to be part of one of the greatest maritime disasters in history."

The wonderful and historic artifacts are used to tell the story of every class of passenger that was traveling between England and the U.S. Some were traveling for pleasure and others were on their way to America to find a better life.

What's really cool is that you'll actually see how some of the "staterooms" were set up aboard the ship, with the exhibit using authentic artifacts that once sat on the ocean floor with the wreckage!
