Lynyrd Skynyrd, the nation's premiere southern rock band will return to the Bangor Waterfront this summer to perform with Bad Company on Thursday July 10th!

The band started by founding members Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington back in the sixties continues to be one of the hardest working rock bands ever with their tours each and every year.  Only Rossington remains, but their distinctive sound continues on!

I saw Skynyrd perform on Wendesday night, June 15th 1977 in Springfield, MA. Just about four months later the plane went down killing Ronnie Van Zant and two other members of the band.  I thought at the time that would be the end.  Thankfully, thirty seven years later they continue to prove me wrong.

Here's my top five Lynyrd Skynrd songs!  What are yours?  Let me know and I may play one for today during "A Whole Lotta Lunch"!

    Sweet Home Alabama

The first time I heard those distinctive guitar licks I knew it was something special.  From their "Second Helping" album released in 1974.

  • 2

    Freebird

A rock and roll anthem that rivals Stairway To Heaven, and maybe the most requested rock song of all time.  The song that initially put the band on the map.  From their first album "Pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd."

    Gimme Three Steps

Also from their debut album back in 1973. Southern honky tonk story telling at it's best!

  • 4

    What's Your Name

From the "Street Survivors" album, the last record featuring Ronnie Van Zant on lead vocals.  A song about being on the road and the trouble that a band can get into.

    Tuesday's Gone

The second cut on their debut album back in 1973 and my personal favorite.  A song about life's changes.
