A Town Selectman and another man are facing arson charges for a fire last year.

The State Fire Marshal's office Friday arrested two men from the town of Perry on arson-related charges. Both men are from the Washington County town. Arrested were:

  • Town Selectman Scott MacNichol, age 35 of Johnson Road - charged with two counts of Class A Arson and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Arson
  • Jeffrey Morrison, age 36 of Shore Road - charged with two counts of Class A Arson and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Arson

Fire Marshal Investigator Jeremy Damren said the investigation began following a fire on April 26, 2014 that destroyed a vacant single family home that belonged to Morrison. He says the Lake Road home was torched to collect on the insurance proceeds.

The Fire Marshal's Office was aided in the investigation by Washington County District Attorney Matt Foster, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and the State Police.

Morrison and MacNichols are free on bail after being taken to the Washington County Jail.
