The U.S. Coast Guard is reporting that the boat went down in 158 feet of water about 3 miles off the coast.

Apparently this past Wednesday, one tugboat was towing the other when the two boats somehow collided.  The 40-foot tugboat Helen Louise with its two-person crew called for help when their vessel collided with the 80-foot tugboat Capt Mackintire while they had it in tow, according to a press release.  The Capt Mackintire was unmanned and began taking on water.

The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Reef Shark was deployed from Boston and eventually tried to tow the Capt Mackintire to Portland.  Soon, the towline would have to be cut and the boat sank to the bottom.

The Helen Louise and its crew were escorted to into Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
