Two Connecticut residents were arrested as they were bringing a sizable amount of heroin into Maine.

As part of an investigation into the importation and distribution of heroin in Washington County, drug agents and sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle on Route 9 in Dayblock Township. MDEA officials had received a tip, while working with the Calais Police Department, that two people from out of state would be attempting to bring heroin into Washington County for redistribution.

Law Enforcement officials searched the vehicle and its occupants, and seized 275 bags of heroin, containing approximately 28 grams of heroin. The drugs had an estimated street value of $10,000. As a result of the investigation, the following have been charged:

  • Heath Jones-Sanchez, age 24 of Waterbury, Connecticut. Jones-Sanchez is charged with Class 'B' Trafficking in Heroin. Officials say the charges will likely be elevated to class 'A' Aggravated Trafficking due to the amount of heroin that was seized. Bail was set at $10,000 cash.
  • Hilary Pugrab, age 20 of Ellington, Connecticut. Pugrab is charged with Possession of Heroin. Bail was set at $5,000 cash.

MDEA was assisted in this investigation by the Calais Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Baileyville Police Department, and the Maine State Police. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
