Two men from Maine who recently moved to California were charged Monday with suspicion of murder in the shooting death of a homeless man in Hollywood.

Troy T. McVey, 22, and his alleged accomplice, Colby R. Kronholm, 21, both formerly of Greenville, Maine, are being held on $1 million bail, according to KTLA Channel 5.

They are expected to make their next court appearance on Wednesday.

Witnesses told KTLA that the victim was shot about six times outside a restaurant after the shooter, identified by police as McVey, demanded money from the man. Police describe the victim, a transient, as an African-American man about 55-60 years old. They have not released the victim's name.

There were several witnesses to the shooting, according to media reports. McVey and Kronholm were captured about 15 minutes after the shooting after an off-duty police officer followed the pair as they left the scene.

The pair reportedly had been breaking car windows before the shooting.

KABC 7 in Los Angeles reports that the men may be been under the influence at the time.

Both men have faced criminal charges in Maine. In 2011, Kronholm was convicted of theft. That same year, McVey was found guilty of refusing to submit to arrest and other charges, according to media reports.
