Two Maine Girls Injured At Boston Bruins Game Recover At Home [VIDEO]

Two girls from southern Maine were injured following a Boston Bruins hockey game this past Thursday night at TD Garden in Boston.  While packing up directly following the game, an apparatus that holds a huge net meant to protect fans from pucks that fly over the plexiglass collapsed on the girls.

Sabina Grasso, 21, and Anna McDonough, 20, were hit by the square metal bar that held the net.  They suffered from concussions, cuts and abrasions and are currently recuperating at their parents homes in Scarborough and Cumberland.

In an article in today’s Portland Press Herald, Grasso’s mother said that Sabina “is stable but is not improving”.  Terri Grasso said that the Boston Bruins President Cam Neely left a voice mail for her daughter on Monday.   McDonough’s father said that his daughter Anna is “still in some significant pain” and that he expects a slow recovery.

Sabina Grasso is on Facebook.

The private EMS service at TD Garden initially tended to the girl’s medical needs before they were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The steel tube bars that hold the net weigh about a pound per foot.  Cables, pulleys and a winch is what is usually used to hoist the net into place.  The NHL mandated tall nets behind each goal back in 2002 following a 13 year old girl being hit and killed by a puck in Columbus, Ohio.
