Two Men Stopped in Old Town with 1,000 Bags of Heroin, Face Felony Charges
Two Mattawamkeag men were charged late Wednesday night with trafficking heroin in Penobscot County.
Scott Gagnon, 45, and Russell McAlpine, 37, both face charges after a month-long investigation by drug agents. The investigation uncovered that the two men would be returning to Maine from Massachusetts Wednesday with a significant amount of heroin for distribution in the Howland, Lincoln and Mattawamkeag areas of Penobscot County.
Agents located the vehicle traveling through Bangor on I-95 and stopped the pair in Old Town. Gagnon, who was wanted on five outstanding arrest warrants at the time of the stop, was taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle, uncovered approximately 1,000 bags of heroin concealed within the car. This heroin has a street value approaching $30,000.
Both Gagnon and McAlpine were taken into custody and charged with Class A, Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin). The charges were aggravated due to the amount of heroin that was seized. Both Gagnon and McAlpine were taken to the Penobscot County Jail where they remain pending a $10,000 cash bail on the drug charges.
