Vassalboro Traffic Stop Leads To Heroin Arrest
A traffic stop in Vassalboro led to the arrest of a Portland woman on heroin charges.
Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says State Police stopped a vehicle Thursday for an expired inspection sticker on the Bog Road in Vassalboro. A passenger in the car, 36-year-old Amy Santiago of Portland, was out on bail on a previous heroin charge.
Police searched Santiago's purse and found drug paraphernalia, including several needles, cotton ball filters, Narcan, and plastic bags. Narcan is used to counteract the effects of an opioid overdose. One of the syringes contained a brown liquid that tested positive for heroin.
Santiago was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule W Drugs and Violating Conditions of Release. She was taken to the Kennebec County Jail.
