Verso Paper's Bucksport Mill will close down for two weeks beginning next week, but the plant will open again in February. Townsquare Media heard today that the mill was closing down, so we contacted Verso's spokesman Bill Cohen who assured us that jobs are safe in Bucksport.

Cohen told us today that it's not unusual for paper mills to shut down temporarily, especially in the winter. Business is slow this time of year and he said with the high cost of natural gas, the cost of doing business goes up.

So the Bucksport mill will close on January 16th and will reopen again on February 3rd. When we asked Cohen directly if anyone would lose their job as a result of this shutdown he answered with an emphatic 'No."
