The pharmaceutical company, Tris Pharma, has issued a voluntary nationwide recall on some brands of infant ibuprofen.

The New Jersey company posted the information on its website, recalling three lots of Infants' Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension, USP (NSAID), 50 mg per 1.25 mL, at the retail level. They say the recalled lots have been found to potentially have higher concentrations of ibuprofen, which could result in over-medicating.

Officials say there is a chance that infants may be more susceptible to a higher potency of the drug and so may be more vulnerable to permanent NSAID-associated renal injury. Adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, or in rare cases, diarrhea. Tinnitus, headache, and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible side effects.

So far, Tris Pharma, Inc. hasn't received any reports of adverse reactions related to the recalled items, but they're erring on the side of caution.

Recalled lots from Walmart are 00717009A, 00717015A, and 00717024A, with expiration dates of 02/19, 04/19, and 08/19.

The recalled lots from CVS Pharmacy and Family Dollar are 00717024A, with an expiration date of 08/19.
