    Some Girls

    Rolling Stones

The Stones released Some Girls in 1978, and it contained the hit song Miss You, the band's contribution to the disco era.  The album cover was designed by Peter Corriston who would go on to also design the next three covers for the Stones.  The original cover showed the likeness of various celebrities like Judy Garland, Farah Fawcett and Marilyn Monroe.  The Stones were sued by these celebrities and eventually had to re-issue the album cover.

    The Cars

The Boston based band with a new wave flair released  their second album in 1979. The cover art was done by Alberto Vargas, who was retired and 83 years old at the time.  Vargas who already was famous for painting pin-up girl pictures for magazines like Esquire and Playboy came out of retirement for his niece, who was a fan of The Cars. And yes, the real life model for the photo was named Candy Moore.

    Breakfast In America

    Supertramp

1979 saw the release of Breakfast In America by Supertramp, and it definitely was the album that put the band on the map.  It contained four hit songs and an album cover that showed a waitress named Libby holding a tray with orange juice on it.  Libby is viewed through an airplane window, and yes that is supposed to be New York City in the background.
