Bangor water district is dealing with a water main break on this very cold day. The repair is taking longer than expected  and so they've asked that motorists avoid the area around the break until they can repair it.

The break is on Union Street at the intersection with 15th Street and so traffic is being detoured, when necessary. The DOT says it now appears the break is on the other side of the road, heading away from the airport, and has traveled underground to the opposite side of the street. As crews dig to chase the water to the origin of the break, traffic will be shut down on alternate sides of the road.

Motorists are advised to steer clear of the area altogether for the remainder of the afternoon. Hammond Street, I-95, or Ohio Streets are all possible detours to bypass the road work. Maine DOT said in a press release today that this has nothing to do with the Maine DOT bridge replacement project but unfortunately happened near the work area.

Anyone with any questions or concerns is asked to contact the Bangor Water District at (207) 947-4516.
