The early estimates for the opening weekend gross of Furious 7 are all over the place and we probably won’t have a definitive number until tomorrow, when the dust finally settles and everyone gets a chance to breathe. However, this one thing we know for sure: the seventh film in the Fast and Furious series didn’t just shatter in-franchise records, it shattered records for any April release.

With an estimated $143 million earned over the weekend, Furious 7 shattered all expectations and broke the previous record for best April opening into tiny little pieces. Interestingly, the previous record of $95 million was set with last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which had just overtaken Fast Five’s $86 million opening…which had overtaken Fast and Furious’ $70 million opening. So yes, the Fast and Furious series kicking butt in April is nothing new.

Both of the previous Fast and Furious movies had opening weekends that were just shy of $100 million to final grosses of over $200 million, so Furious 7 is already well on its way to being the highest grossing film in the series. If the opening weekend is any indication, this one has a shot of likely breaking $300 million, especially since it won’t face any direct competition until Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in one month.

Last week’s champion, the animated family film Home, held on relatively well considering the new juggernaut in first place. Dropping 43 percent, the film grossed $29 million over its second weekend, bringing its current total to $97 million. At this rate, $150 million shouldn’t be a problem and anything beyond that is just icing on top of an already very successful cake. If it can hit $200 million, great! If not, DreamWorks knows that the inevitable sequel probably will.

Meanwhile, Get Hard slipped to third place, falling a rough 59 percent. The Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell comedy added $13 million to its total, which now sits at $67 million. $100 million is still likely, but that steep drop doesn’t bode well for its future.

In fourth place, Cinderella made $11 million, bringing its total to $167 million. With a drop of only 35 percent, Disney’s live action take on the classic fairy tale is showcasing strong legs that will allow it to effortlessly pass $200 million within the next few weeks. The arrival of summer will probably prevent it from doing Maleficent business, but no one is complaining about this one.

In fifth place, Insurgent took a massive drop of 54 percent in its third weekend, grossing $10 million and squeaking over the $100 million mark. It still has a ways to go if it wants to match the $150 million grossed by its predecessor, but it has immediate blockbuster competition now. International grosses are strong, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone at all to see this one falter in the final stretch.

In the final stretch, It Follows continued doing solid business for a film of its size, collecting $2.6 million for a total gross of $8 million so far. Kingsman: The Secret Service kept on keeping on, adding a few million to its $122 million gross. And finally, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel passed $30 million, which makes it a smash hit for a film of its size.
