Folks at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor have stoked our curiosity.  This coming Tuesday they will announce a "huge act" that will play the Center this June.  Who do you think it may be?

They given us some clues, and they are:

"The rock legend has never played Bangor."  That leaves out Tom Petty, Kiss and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  And using the word "legend" makes one think that at this point, it's a he or she out on a solo tour of some sort.

The rock legend is a member of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.  There are so many!  From affordable acts like The Drifters to the big expensive boys like McCartney and Springsteen, which I would find it hard to believe that the Cross Center could afford.

The rock legend has won a Grammy Award.  That excludes half the members of rock nation.

I'll eliminate Billy Joel. He is touring this year, but the dates are all in very big cities. And then there's Elton John,  but he's in Germany and England during June. Ozzy and Black Sabbath are together again and on the road, but they're in Eastern Europe during June. Sting has already been here once, and will tour with Peter Gabriel this year, so that excludes him.

So, thinking about affordability, never playing Bangor in the past, a member of the rock hall of fame, and being a winner of a Grammy Award, here are my guesses:

Robert Plant Presents Sensational Space Shifters.  He's won a Grammy from his work with Allison Krausse, and he's living with Patty Griffin who's originally from Old Town.  His short tour schedule is currently listed as ending in March.

Santana.  Carlos Santana is currently holed up at his Las Vegas residency until the end of May.  He does have a gig in Germany in July.  So, there's plenty of time to stop by Bangor.  Would Santana sell enough tickets here in Bangor?  Probably.

Bon Jovi.  Could Bangor afford Bon Jovi?  One tends to doubt it, but here's hoping.

Rod Stewart.  After recording many albums of standards (which he won a Grammy with), practically living onstage in Vegas, and dipping his football tootsies into country music, it's proven that Rod will do anything for a buck.  So yes, he would come to Bangor, even if it's the one in Maine and not in Wales.

Paul Simon, or, maybe even Simon & Garfunkel?  The act would appeal to all demos, and after the James Taylor and John Fogerty shows, it would fit right along with what the Cross Insurance Center would like to be known for.  So far Simon only has three gigs scheduled scattered across the country.

Eric Clapton.  He's in Japan, in April.  Plenty of time to make it to Bangor.

Pearl Jam.  They've won a Grammy. But, they're playing a couple of gigs at Fenway Park in Boston this August. If those shows sell out quickly, then maybe they'll schedule a show further North.

DJ Fred's bottom line?  I'm guessing it's Robert Plant.
