Ann B. Davis, the actress who played Alice on The Brady Bunch passed away yesterday, she was 88 years old.

According to reports Davis was in good health and had come downstairs to say goodnight to her roommate before slipping in the bathroom and hitting her head, she then succumbed to her injuries.

This made me wonder what ever happened to Allan Melvin, the actor who played "Sam the Butcher" on the popular seventies TV show.  If you remember, Sam always seemed to be in the kitchen with Alice where he was "delivering the meat."

Melvin played Sam Franklin, the owner of the local butcher shop and boyfriend of Alice on the show during the 70s, before moving on to play Barney Hefner on the 80s show Archie Bunker's Place, the spin off show from All In The Family.

Allan Melvin's voice was also well known.  He voiced the cartoon character Magilla Gorilla,  Drooper the lion on the Banana Splits Adventure Hour, and also several voices in the show H.R. Pufnstuf.  And, he also voiced many TV commercials too.

Born in Kansas City and then raised in New York City where he lived until the end, Allan Melvin passed away because of cancer on January 17th, 2008, at the age of 84.
