The temperature of the sea water in the Gulf Of Maine has increased one half a degree in temperature per year during the past decade, thus the reason for lobsters moving further north. Will they eventually leave our waters?

In this very well done video produced by O' Chang Studios with the support of the Maine Sea Grant Program at the University of Maine, you'll learn that lobsters are indeed migrating further north every year due to climate change.

What does that mean for lobster fishermen in Downeast Maine?  Well, so far, they're reaping the rewards as the majority of lobsters have migrated to our area, but, if temperatures continue to increase in the Gulf of Maine, lobsters will continue to seek relief and move further North.

In the video, you'll learn that lobsters become stressed which makes them more vulnerable to predators and disease as  the water temperature increases.  For instance, Black Sea Bass have migrated into our area due to the warm waters and are now the lobster's main predator, where as they weren't even in our area a few years ago.

It's scary stuff, and something to think of, even if you aren't fully convinced of global warming.
