The widow of a man who was killed while driving a tractor in Bangor's 4th of July Parade nearly two years ago has filed a lawsuit. Named in the wrongful death suit are the City of Bangor, the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club, and the other man involved in the tragic accident.

WABI-TV reports Lorena Fenlason of Holden filed the lawsuit in Penobscot County Superior Court, and is seeking compensation for the death of her husband, Wallace Fenlason. The amount she's requesting is not specified.

Wallace Fenlason was killed when the farm tractor he was driving was struck from behind by an antique fire truck. The tractor toppled over and Fenlason was crushed beneath the fire truck. The accident happened as the parade participants made a sharp turn off Main Street in Bangor onto Water Street, a last minute change in the route that was made because of a standoff with police on Park Street. The subsequent Police report on the accident listed the cause as a lack of sufficient brake fluid in the antique fire truck, that caused the brakes to malfunction.

The lawsuit claims the City, Kiwanis Club, and the driver of the antique fire truck, Patrick Heathcote were negligent and responsible for the death of Fenlason. While there is no specified amount listed, Mrs. Fenlason is asking for funeral expenses, loss of comfort and companionship.
