Will Maine’s Forest Rangers Be Armed? LD 297 Goes Before the House

Maine’s forest rangers are asked to enforce state laws and often deal with crimes of theft, arson and more.

They have been asking the state for the right to be properly trained and equipped with firearms to afford them proper protection. 

Even when LD 297 was introduced, many people in Maine were under the assumption that forest rangers, like our other branches of law enforcement personnel in the state, were armed already.

Much public support has been voiced, and testimony given to the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety, and now the bill to arm Maine’s forest rangers, LD 297 goes to the House of Representatives this afternoon for a vote.
