Police and rescue personnel are in Hampden this afternoon, after a woman's body was pulled from the Penobscot River. The middle-aged woman's body was dicovered by kayakers this morning. Now, police are asking for the public's help identifying the victim.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says the victim is a woman in her 50's or 60's, with short reddish hair, wearing jeans and a leather-like coat.

McCausland says two kayakers spotted the body in the river, about 20 to 30 feet from shore, off Cottage Road in Hampden. Detectives are reviewing any missing persons reports. It appears the woman was in the river only a few days.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the State Police in Orono at (207) 866-2122.

We'll have more details, as they become available.
