Work Outdoors? How Do You Cope With The Cold Temperatures?
It's almost a heatwave in Bangor today with temperatures this afternoon eventually making their way into the teens. Although, temperatures could go down to 15 below tonight with wind chills down to about 30 below. Wow, that's cold!
Do you work outdoors?
Of course you want to keep your body warm so that hypothermia doesn't set in. When your body is exposed to extreme cold temperatures it eventually cannot create enough heat to cope. Low body temperature affects the brain, so you may not even realize that hypothermia is setting in.
Here's the warning signs of hypothermia:
- shivering, exhaustion
- confusion, fumbling hands
- memory loss, slurred speech
- drowsiness
Is your co-worker experiencing these warning signs? Then get them warmed up and seek medical help ASAP!
Most outdoor professionals will tell you that layering your clothing is the way to go. Maybe two or three layers of clothing to keep the heat in, and then another layer to keep the wetness and the wind out.
So, if you're working outdoors today, I'd like to hear from you!! How are you coping with the weather?
