Citing the increase in Covid-19 cases within the community as their reason, the Rotary Club of Bangor took to social media this week to let folks know they intend to use the same plan as last year instead. Last holiday season, they sponsored a  community wide competition of light displays, and had people travel to the displays and vote, at their own pace.

From the Rotary Club of Bangor, Maine's Facebook Page:

"Held in partnership with Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Bangor Partnership, and Links Web Design, Rotary Club of Bangor invites businesses, non-profits, private homeowners, municipal organizations, and entire neighborhoods to create festive and colorful light displays at their own locations, and the public can view them at their leisure...the public is invited to drive by participating homes and organizations and enjoy light displays from the safety of their own vehicles...the top vote recipient being honored with Best Overall."

The winner of the Best Overall prize will get $500 cash. All others winners will get trophies.

Just like last year, maps will be available online, at either bangorrotary.org or visitbangormaine.com. You can download the maps, drive whichever route you choose, and cast your votes at the same site.

The Rotary Club of Bangor will also, as in years past, decorate the large tree that stands in West Market Square. The lighting of that holiday tree on December 4th will kick off the voting period for the Festival Of Lights Contest. People will have till January 2nd to vote for the different categories.
