Again, Thousands Of Alewives Die This Week In The Union River

Think it's easy swimming through the Leonard Lake Dam on the Union River in Ellsworth?  It's not.

One again this week, thousands of mutilated alewives are showing up downstream from the dam owned by by Brookfield Renewable.  It's a sad situation, as instinct kicks in and these young alewives try to make their way down Ellsworth's Union River and into the Atlantic, but not before falling victim to the sharp generator blades that spew the water forth.

We really hope that someday something can be done to prevent this situation from occurring, and that clean energy continues to be produced while these fish get to live.
