A Bucksport woman is charged with murder for the death of a 2-year-old girl in 2017.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 21-year-old Savannah Smith is accused of killing 2-year-old Kloe Hawksley and was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury on Thursday. She was arrested at the Spring Fountain Motel in Bucksport just after 6 p.m. that evening.

Smith was in a relationship with Tyler Hawksley, Kloe's father, at the time of her death. Police received a 911 call on October 18th, 2017 of an unresponsive child at a home at 264 Central Street in Bucksport. State and Bucksport Police have been investigating the death since that time. Officials have never released the cause of death.

Smith was taken to the Hancock County Jail and will likely be in court either Friday or Monday.
