Canoe Race In Hampden This Weekend Offers Something For Every Skill Level Paddler
Whether you want a bit or practice for the Kenduskeg Canoe race or you have never felt up to the challenge and want to start with something less daunting the 2nd Annual Eliot Lamb Memorial Race on Souadabscook Stream is just the ticket.
This race will queue up on the Bog Road in Hampden this Saturday, April 14th. Race day registration and check in will begin at 10 am - 11:30
The registration site says of Elliot:
Eliot was introduced to whitewater canoe racing through the MACKRO race series as a young teenager and later expanded his passion for river running when he became a registered Maine whitewater raft guide. He loved every aspect of the rivers he spent his time paddling.
One of the wonderful things this race offers is a paddle for every skill level that will keep things fun.
1: MACKRO Downriver Point Series Race: Race #3 of the point series. A 7.5 mile course including a flat water section to start, followed by a class III section to finish the race. This course will include a mandatory portage around Grand Falls.
2: Short Course Option #1: Three mile course of flat water with some mild class I-II whitewater, ending at the Manning Mill Bridge (Devil's Bridge). This race will be free for children under the age of 12 and open to boaters of all ages.
3: Short Course Option #2: 4.5 mile stretch of class III whitewater stretching from Devil’s Bridge put in and ending at the Water Works building in Downtown Hampden. This race will include an MANDATORY portage around Grand Falls, a class IV waterfall. (Grand Falls can be run after the race only this year)
*Helmets are required for all courses
*A BBQ and awards ceremony will follow the races
Registration fees include a 2nd Annual Eliot Lamb Memorial Race T-shirt, a sticker and racing number
