Technically Earth Day was last Sunday so this event is really capping off Earth week. Truth be known at the College of the Atlantic they are green 24/7. So who better to know how to celebrate and educate. This is a free and family friendly event.

The College of the Atlantic event will be host to sustainability workshops, live music, good food, performances, and kid-friendly activities.

This is their scheduled  list of events:

11:00 -12:30 p.m.
  • Vendors, Open Mic & Free Picnic Lunch provided by August Moon Catering
12:00 -1:00 p.m.
  • Puppet Show by Funky Trunks Puppeteers (a group of local Mount Desert Island kids, directed by Lelania Avila ’92): “Large Marge’s Garbage Barge”
1: 00 - 1:30 p.m. Educational Workshops
  • Josie Trople - seed saving workshop

  • ME Community Energy Advocates - license plates

  • Frenchman Bay Research Boating - citizen science demo

1:30 - 2:15 p.m. D​rop-In Workshops and Demos
  • Vonnie Love - step dance

  • COA Gardening Club - planting workshop

  • Jonas & Colin - bike fixing workshop

  • Spencer Gray - e-car demo

2:15 - 3:00 p.m. Closing events
  • Movie screening & discussion: The Story of Stuff

According to their hopes for their community and themselves they write,

Earth Day 2018 is a project of the College of the Atlantic Committee for Campus Sustainability, charged with: encouraging and maintaining a sense of social and environmental accountability in all aspects of the college’s operation; promoting leadership, responsibility, and involvement among COA community members regarding issues of sustainability; maintaining and encouraging transparency, oversight and clarity in regards to college sustainability; advising the COA community on the most environmentally and socially responsible courses of action.
