The city of Bangor is set to roll out a new parking enforcement system in downtown.

Starting next month, Bangor will have a new vehicle patrolling parking in downtown. October 1, a new hybrid vehicle with cameras equipped with license plate recognition  technology will patrol the Downtown Parking Management District.

According to city officials:

The system will notify the parking ambassador of a potential violation. The ambassador will then determine if there is, in fact, a violation and decide whether a ticket is warranted or not. This new parking management system intends to discourage drivers from "shuffling" their cars and will instead encourage drivers to utilize parking garages and permitted lots appropriate for their time in downtown.

As in the past, one parking ticket for an overtime violation will be waived per 120 days. This grace period will start fresh on October 1.
