The driver in an accident over the weekend that killed three passengers in Acadia National Park is now facing manslaughter charges.

It was very early Saturday morning when Praneeth Manubolu told authorities he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Manubolu, 28, of Edgewater, New Jersey, sustained non-life threatening injuries, but his three passengers were killed in the crash. The deceased are Lenny Fuchs, 36, Laura Leong, 30, and Zeeshan Mohammed, 27, all of New York City.

According to the BDN, court documents indicate that Manubolu told police he and and his friends had been drinking in Bar Harbor prior to the accident. He said his friends were confident that he was coherent enough to drive, and added that one of the passengers warned him of a curve coming up in the Park Loop Road, at Acadia National Park, but he failed to slow down in time.

Manubolu is charged with three counts of manslaughter, punishable by up to 30 years in prison. He's due in court on Tuesday.
