Police will be stepping up OUI enforcement through the long weekend.

Ellsworth Police are planning to conduct OUI road checks through Labor Day. Before we get the comment of "why are you telling us where and when they'll be?" There's reasoning behind police departments publicizing planned checkpoints. Announcing OUI road checks can enhance their preventative effect, and can reduce discomfort for area drivers. Plus OUI checkpoints are nothing to fear, or much of an inconvenience if you're not driving impaired.

The details are focused around the Route 1A, 3 and 172 corridor between 7p.m. and 2a.m. Police say "Please make sure you have a sober driver so everyone can enjoy the Holiday weekend."
