After remaining closed last year, a summertime staple in Saco is planning to open this season.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Funtown Splashtown USA didn't open for the 2020 season. It was the first season in the park's 60-year history that it remained closed into the summer months. However, plans for reopening this season have been submitted to the state for approval.

According to a Facebook post by Funtown Splashtown USA, the 2021 season will look very different from years prior. Changes include:

  • Mandatory mask wearing.
  • Social distancing.
  • Empty seats on rides to accommodate social distancing.
  • Fewer lounge chairs in Splashtown, and more space between picnic tables in both parks.
  • Hand sanitizing stations throughout the park.
  • Limited hours throughout the spring and summer.

Funtown Splashtown USA writes, "All of these things and more will be in play, so that you and your families and friends can feel confident and secure that Funtown Splashtown USA is doing everything we can to keep everyone that enters the park, safe and well. Of course, as time moves forward and State of Maine mandates and protocols are adjusted or eliminated, the park will follow suit."

In the coming weeks, maintenance staff will begin work to reopen the park. HR staff will begin the hiring process for seasonal workers, and add that summer positions are looking to be filled.

An official opening date has yet to be set, but the park typically opens in May.
