It’s Almost Move-In Day For Folks At The New City Hall In Bangor, Maine!
It's been almost 2 years in the making with an $8.9 million price tag, but the renovation project at the old Bangor City Hall building on Harlow Street is nearly complete. With that said, the departments that had to vacate the building in 2023 so the work could be done are gearing up to move back into the old building and check out their new digs.
According to the City of Bangor's website, the improvements made over the past 20 months of renovations are quite extensive.
"Among the improvements at City Hall are improved access to services with Assessing, Clerk/Treasury, Code, Community and Economic Development, and Planning services all located on the first floor, as well as Council Chambers. "
"Additionally, a new HVAC system was installed that helps make the building far more energy efficient, a new elevator that meets federal requirements, and safety and security enhancements."
David Warren, Administrative and Communications Manager for the City of Bangor, states that while some have already begun the move, the official move-in date will be the end of the first week of August.
"We’re scheduled to reopen at City Hall at 73 Harlow St. on Monday, Aug. 11."

"Some departments are already over there, but City Hall at the Penquis building will be closed Aug. 7 and 8 to move over the remaining departments."
Bangor City Council Chair, Cara Pelletier, says everyone is looking forward to getting back to business in the newly renovated space. “We’re excited to move back into an updated City Hall that will serve the people of Bangor for decades to come."
"We’re very appreciative to Penquis for hosting municipal services at their building and to residents for their patience as we relocated city services during the renovation.”
