Tonight’s mystery artist at a young age likened living in the suburbs to being in prison.  Think you can guess who this dramatic young man was??

The story is about Donald Fagen whose parents, Jerry and Elinor, came from the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. In the late 50’s his family transitioned into a home in New Jersey. Donald tells how the transition upset him. How he detested living in the suburbs. And years later in an interview he would proclaim still that it "was like a prison". But adding the upside;

“I think I lost faith in [my parents'] judgment... It was probably the first time I realized I had my own view of life." His life in Kendall Park, including his teenage love of late-night radio, inspired his album The Nightfly."
